Ryan is currently Senior Advisor, Stakeholder and Aboriginal Relations at Suncor Energy. He is the former Regional Manager of Government and Aboriginal Affairs for Opus Stewart Weir, where his skills were utilized to increase business through a balanced approach between contemporary business practices and respecting traditional values of all parties. Ryan has served as Special Advisor to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta & NWT as well as a Provincial Minister appointed member of the Alberta Strategic Tourism Committee. He was also the Chief Executive Officer for both Treaty 7 Management Corporation and the Treaty 7 First Nations Chiefs’ Association. In 2009, he was honoured with the Blackfoot name “Niinistakaa” by Chief Reg Crowshoe, Piikani Nation. Ninistakaa means “the one the Chiefs depend on/ Chiefs’ Warrior.” In 2011, he was further honoured with a Headdress for his service to the Treaty 7 Nations.

Our energy system has undergone constant change so transition is not a new phenomenon in Alberta. Breakthroughs in battery storage, however, will accelerate the pace of renewable energy development. The recent change in provincial government could also bring more rewards and greater profile to more efficient and renewable energy providers.
