Provincial Green Initiatives Coordinator

Laura is the Provincial Green Initiative Coordinator at the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA), a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life for urban Indigenous peoples across Alberta. At the ANFCA, Laura works with a provincial advisory committee consisting of two youth and two Elders to create Indigenous Climate Leadership programs that engage, educate and empower. Recently, the Green Initiative facilitated four energy efficiency conferences, one in each of the four sacred directions of the medicine wheel, that brought together Indigenous community members, non-profits, industry, government, youth and Elders to discuss regional challenges and opportunities in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Laura holds a BSc in Global Resource Systems from the University of British Columbia where she also played for the Thunderbirds Women’s Volleyball program. Her previous experience includes working in sustainable agriculture research, sustainable sport research, as a Parks Interpreter and as a Park Ranger.
