Barend Dronkers researches and analyzes energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed energy resource technologies. His expertise includes energy efficiency portfolio and program design, potential studies, technical reference manuals, performance benchmarking and financing programs. Barend is co-founder and manager for the Grid Sandbox – an open platform for electric grid innovation. He has 10 years of professional experience in engineering, policy, and energy transition planning from his positions at Energy Efficiency Alberta, the Pembina Institute, and Shell. He holds a Master of Sustainable Energy Technology from the Delft University of Technology and is a Waterloo engineering graduate. When not seated behind a desk, he loves exploring the great outdoors on bikes, boots, skis, and climbing ropes!
