Sura currently leads education and engagement activities to stay ahead of trends in industry that may lead to avoidable compliance issues, and to report on market evolution in the industry which may require changes in the regulatory framework. Previously, she worked with the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator and Ontario Ministry of Energy where her work included designing energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, transmission supply acquisition and contract management. As an environmental and energy consultant she worked with a diverse set of clients to help them create and implement strategies to support sustainability objectives. Sura is an avid learner, keen to draw parallels and opportunities that connect the energy industry with environmental as well as social objectives. Sura joined the EFL fellowship program in 2022, when she was new to Alberta and sought to more closely connect with the Alberta energy sector.
Recognizing the various lenses through which concepts of an energy transition may be viewed and experienced will be crucial in identifying priority areas, unforeseen implications and avoid unintended consequences.
