Keren directs and stewards the Energy Futures Policy Collaborative – a multi-leader partnership diving into the intersection of systems change, policy and investment. Keren’s career and specialties have focused on pioneering new ways to solve messy challenges through the use of disciplines such as systemic design, foresight, and design facilitation. She is Co-founder of the Alberta CoLab – the first public sector social innovation lab to launch at a provincial level – and alumni of Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40.

Matt Mayer

Matt has extensive experience applying systems-thinking, facilitating sustainability strategy and advancing leadership in all sectors across North America. He both advises and supports the design and delivery of the Energy Futures Lab. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Victoria and an MSc in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden.

Emily Blocksom

Emily has always been fascinated by the natural world. Growing up on a small island off the west coast of British Columbia, she learned early in life of the important connection between healthy communities, economies, and the environment. She is passionate about working collaboratively across sectors to support the implementation of sustainable environmental practices. Emily holds a master’s degree in Environmental Management from the University of New Brunswick, and an undergraduate degree in Geography from the University of Calgary.

Pong Leung

Pong is a founding member of The Natural Step Canada team and was part of the original group that created the Energy Futures Lab. He leads and provides strategic input to select Lab initiatives as well as playing an advisory role in the Lab’s strategic direction.

Kelley Thompson

She prioritizes being sensitive and adaptive to changes in needs and priorities, while seeking opportunities to understand, empathize, unlearn, and problem-solve.

Kelley deeply believes that by actively committing to co-creating meaningful and authentic spaces, we can continue to build our systems so that they evolve beyond our collective limiting beliefs into an abundant, purpose-driven, and equitable future.

Erin Romanchuk

Erin is an experienced leader with a robust background in sustainable development driving transformative change in the energy sector. She has applied her systems thinking expertise to co-create meaningful outcomes across diverse groups, having previously worked with WWF, the Whistler Center for Sustainability and The City of Calgary.

As the Deputy Director at Energy Futures Lab, Erin plays a pivotal role in advancing new energy initiatives and fostering collaboration among unlikely bedfellows to generate and deliver innovative solutions. With an MSc in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability, her career spans various roles in both the public and private sectors, where she has successfully led projects aimed at restoring balance in our natural systems and embedding approaches for identifying sustainable solutions. Known for her strategic thinking and ability to build strong relationships, Erin is passionate about creating a sustainable future that benefits both people and the environment.

A recognized thought leader, Erin is actively involved in mentoring emerging leaders in the field, sharing her knowledge and experiences to inspire the next generation of energy innovators. Her dedication to sustainability and community engagement continues to shape her impactful work in the energy landscape.

Alison Cretney

Alison oversees the strategic direction and operations of the Energy Futures Lab, including supporting dozens of entrepreneurs, energy companies and stakeholders in generating opportunities to identify, test and scale new initiatives and collaborations. As a professional engineer, sustainability consultant and social innovator, Alison has advised and supported numerous multinationals, government agencies and startups. She has worked at the cross-section of energy, environment and collaboration for almost two decades.
